"NOLA For Life" Volunteer Day (7/14)

Dear Friend,

It is no secret that, for many decades, New Orleans has had a murder rate that is much higher than the national average. We, like most urban cities in America, have an epidemic on our hands. It remains my top priority as Mayor of New Orleans to end the cycle of violence on our streets, and to create a culture that celebrates life. We can and we must prevent murders.

On Saturday, July 14th, 2012, I’m asking for your help to take back the streets for the first NOLA FOR LIFE Volunteer Day. Citizens, city agencies and the NOPD are teaming up to clean up crime hot spots in the community.

Click here to sign-up for NOLA FOR LIFE Volunteer Day.

The five pillars of NOLA FOR LIFE are:

o Stop the Shootings
o Invest in Prevention
o Promote Jobs and Opportunity
o Get Involved and Rebuild Neighborhoods
o Improve the NOPD

Sincerely,

Mitchell J. Landrieu
Mayor

Vote for Gatto Park to Win!
Hi all,

The only NOLA park in this “Sprite Spark Parks” competition is Eddie Gatto Playspot. It is located across the street from my house in Gentilly. Yes we are still “recovering” from 2005! Please see instructions below and vote for Gatto in New Orleans.

The City of New Orleans has been selected as one of 25 parks across the USA to participate in a grant which will award a grant of up to 15K to Gatto Park to refurbish the basketball court. This is a grant opportunity through NRPA and Coke LLC. Local communities go to the following website, www.SpriteSparkParks.comto vote for their neighborhood park by doing the following:

1. Register onsite for username or use Facebook ID
2. Click on how it works
3. Enter the promo code: SPRITEPARKNOLA
